The Challenge..
The Carrington Battery Energy Storage project required the transformation of a complex brownfield site, formerly associated with Manchester’s Carrington Power Station, into a stable and fully prepared development platform capable of supporting a 680 MW / 1360 MWh energy storage facility.
Our Solution..
ACS was appointed by Statera Energy as Principal Contractor to deliver a significant enabling works package. This landmark project forms a key part of the UK’s transition toward resilient, low-carbon energy infrastructure.
ACS’s scope of works is structured around two primary packages.
Package 1 – Early Works
- Establishment of site access
- Construction of temporary haul roads
- Installation of a culvert crossing
- Creation of the main construction compound
- Welfare and office foundations
- Installation of site utilities
- Initial identification and management of invasive species
Package 2 – Development Platform
- Major earthworks across the brownfield site
- Slope stabilisation works
- Installation of retention structures
- Site-wide drainage installation
- Capping works across the development platform
The Result..
Works commenced in early September 2025, with site establishment and a substantial
remediation and earthworks programme now underway to prepare the former Carrington
Power Station site for the next phase of construction.
