The Challenge.
ACS was asked to support with the new high bay warehouse slab works at the AstraZeneca campus in Macclesfield.
The location of the works was within a highly sensitive area whilst working with the Principal Contractor BES and the design team. We were involved with the development of the specifications and risk assessments to ensure the noise and vibration levels were kept to a minimum. This meant that the disruption of the pharmaceutical production programme was kept to a minimum.
Our Solution.
ACS Construction Group completed a range of complex refurbishment and construction works, including:
Slab Demolition
To start, the existing concrete slab had to be safely isolated from live buildings.
Once removed, the demolished material was crushed and recycled on-site, then reused as a pile mat — reducing waste and improving efficiency.
We poured a 1,800m² concrete slab at 450mm depth, using over 800m³ of concrete across four pours.
A laser screed was used to meet FM2 surface tolerance standards.

- 670 anchor bolts precisely set out for future racking
Coordination
Our engineering team ensured accurate coordination to avoid clashes between bolts and rebar, maintaining quality and structural integrity throughout.
The Result.
All works — including drainage — were completed on time and within a tight programme, with zero disruption to AstraZeneca’s ongoing operations.
This project demonstrates ACS’s ability to deliver complex structural packages in high-security, live environments with precision and minimal impact.
ACS managed a multi-talented team to provide AstraZeneca with a facility that forms a vital role in the continued success of pharmaceutical production at the Macclesfield campus.
