Key Tasks, Duties and Accountabilities

Key duties & accountabilities:

 

  • Implementation and review of HSE management system, which complies with ISO 45001 and 14001 requirements, and HSE legislation as required.
  • Manage, implement, and review site documentation i.e. the construction phase plan, environmental management plan, traffic management plan, emergency response plan, and waste management (this list is not exhaustive).
  • Site Safety Inspector/Auditor assisting with the writing and closeout of observations/reports and advising site/contracts managers on safety issues.
  • Conduct site investigations, update incident register, and assist teams with the close-out of actions.
  • Chair Safety meetings with employees, participate in client site-specific meetings and consultative forums i.e. Daily Activity Briefings, toolboxes.
  • Review internal and subcontractor risk assessment and method statements and COSHH assessments before works to eliminate risks and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Review Subcontractor Pre-Qualification Questionnaires prior to works.
  • Assist with the development of risk assessments and implement ACS safety-critical operating procedures.
  • Plan, conduct and implement training for operatives, staff, and management in aspects of HSE where applicable.
  • Liaison with client regarding HSE-related matters.
  • Assist with Monthly KPI reporting and share with HSE Manager and Board.
  • Promote a positive behavioural-based safety culture.
  • Any other tasks in relation to maintaining a safe working environment.

Job Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Interpersonal Essential Skills

Essential:

  • 5 years’ experience in a Safety, Health, and Environmental Role
  • Nebosh Health and Safety Diploma or equivalent
  • IEMA Environmental Management certificate
  • Nebosh General Certificate and or Nebosh Construction Certificate
  • A practical, hands-on site approach
  • Team player – the ability to develop a positive working relationship with client and site teams
  • Have experience with monitoring and review of working at height activities
  • Planning/organising
  • Problem-solving/reasoning/creativity
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Computer/technical literacy
  • Flexibility/adaptability/managing multiple priorities
  • Leadership/management skills
  • Multicultural sensitivity/awareness

Desirable:

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
  • Grad IOSH, or working towards CMIOSH status & IEMA membership
  • Nebosh Fire Safety and Risk Management certificate
  • First aid at work
  • Temporary works coordinator/supervisor TWC/TWS
  • Lifting (crane supervisor)
  • Scaffold inspection cert.
  • Lead Auditor qualification

Package

  • Salary – £40,000-45,000 negotiable depending on experience

The role

This is a full-time site-based role in the Stafford area. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ health, safety, and environmental (HSE) experience, with a Level 6 Nebosh Diploma in Health and Safety, an Environmental qualification, a positive outlook and attitude, and the ability to provide “knowledge-based” practical help and HSE guidance to project teams.

The HSE Advisor will report to the ACS Construction Director, Project Manager, and SHEQ Manager as required.
