Sandford Substation | Siemens

The Challenge.
Siemens Energy had been commissioned by National Grid to construct a new substation at the Hinkley Connection in Sandford.
In May 2021 they appointed ACS Construction Group to deliver the civils works for the completion of the project.
The Hinkley Connection Point Substation (HCPS) covers an area of 7192m2 and is part of the new high-voltage electricity infrastructure works along the southwest coast.
The Solution.
Our civils scope included below ground earthing, ducting, drainage, ancillary foundation, electric fencing, and earthworks across the substation platform.
A particular emphasis of the project has been to protect the existing wildlife and habitats around the site during construction, whilst also enhancing the area so that the wildlife can continue thrive in the new surroundings.
The Result
The Hinkley Connection Project is a new 57 km high-voltage electricity line that will connect six million homes and businesses to new sources of low carbon energy.
It will help the UK to meet ambitious targets to achieve net zero by 2050. The Sandford substation – one of 300 substations throughout England and Wales – is at the heart of the project.
