Meet our new Engineer, Georgia Harper. We caught up with Georgia about her time at ACS so far, her career to date and why she wanted to work with us. Take a look at her thoughts below.
Hi Georgia, could you tell us about your experience prior to ACS?
I have studied construction since leaving school, at college and then at university. In 2020 I dropped out of uni due to Covid and took the leap into the industry with an apprenticeship with a main contractor who enabled me to study whilst gaining on site experience. During my time with my previous employer, I was named one of the most influential women in construction by the National Federation of Builders and awarded an outstanding achievement award by my college.
Why did you decide to move to ACS?
When I first entered the industry, I had no idea what aspect of construction I was going to enjoy the most, but I developed a love for the civil side, and wanted to work with a company that could offer the opportunity to enhance my skills within civil engineering, and support my further progression into a higher position in the future. ACS seemed like the perfect fit and after speaking to Paul Smart (my line manager) I genuinely felt like ACS were the perfect company for me.
How have you found your time at ACS so far?
Having only been here a few days I’m feeling more settled than I anticipated; everyone is so friendly and welcoming both in the office and on site. I’m still adjusting to being away from home (and my dogs!) but I’m sure in time I will get used to the new routine.
What are you most looking forward to at ACS?
Working on projects that I otherwise would not have had exposure to at my previous employer and developing my engineering skills.
What do you like doing outside of work?
I love cars so I usually spend my weekends at car shows or with my dogs out on walks in the local area.
