Meet our new Apprentice Engineer, Sam Medina. We caught up with Sam about his time at ACS so far and how he has found things since we welcomed him on board – take a look at our Q&A below.

Hi Sam, tell us about your role at ACS.

Currently at ACS I am travelling to different sites and working in the office, trying to learn as much as possible about construction and engineering. Through shadowing site engineers and attempting some tasks myself I am building a good understanding of the role of an engineer, and this will set me up for success in the future when I start my apprenticeship in September.

What do you think you will enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

My HNC in Construction (Civil Engineering) Apprenticeship course is a two-year part time course that will start in early September. When my apprenticeship starts I think I will enjoy leaning more about civil engineering and having a high understanding of the roles and tasks within it. I can then apply this knowledge to real life situations when I’m on site and put into practise everything I’m being taught.

Why did you want to work at ACS?

I wanted to work at ACS as it has a great hardworking atmosphere where you are supported and have a wide range of opportunities. The people are welcoming and hard work doesn’t go unnoticed at ACS.

How have you found your time at ACS so far?

So far, I’ve really enjoyed my time at ACS, in particular being on site, learning from site engineers and meeting a range of people, whether it’s people on site or the team in the office. I’m looking forward to the future at ACS, but for now I will take each day as it comes, trying to take in as much as possible and learn as much as I can from my colleagues.

Where will your apprenticeship take you next?

I am hoping after my apprenticeship I will be able to use my qualification and knowledge from the course to confidently perform tasks on site and help through the completion of projects. After the two-year course I can continue on towards a HND, this is something that excites me and is definitely a goal of mine.

What do you like doing outside of work?

In my free time I enjoy watching Manchester United and Formula 1, as well as playing football, playing snooker, boxing, travelling and I’m currently training for the Manchester Marathon on the 14th of April 2024.
