We are delighted to announce that works have commenced for our new client, Burns & McDonnell, at the National Grid 400kV Oldbury Substation SGT4 in the Sandwell area of Birmingham.
Our scope of work includes the full civils package and RC structure for the new 275/132kV SGT.
A major element of our works on this project is to build a Reinforced Concrete Structure for the SGT Bund. This involves forming a 250mm-400mm thick reinforced slab with 2no 450mm plinths for the transformers to sit on.
Within the structure, there is an oil containing sump cast within the slab, and a 275mm thick retaining wall, 1m high around the perimeter to contain any excess from the transformers.
Works are progressing well with the slab being poured this week.
We will soon be commencing our works on the AIS RC Bases where we have 50 in total to install, complete with holding down bolts to allow the electrical gantries to sit.
