Meet Laura Fletcher, our Assistant Plant Manager at ACS Construction Group.
Q: Why did you choose the construction industry?
A: My dad worked in the construction industry, so when I was eighteen and looking for a job, he helped me find a career; and I’ve been in the construction industry ever since.
Q: What do you like most about your role?
A: I like that every day is different, it’s always busy, and I enjoy working on different projects up and down the country for ACS. I also like being at the yard, too, because I get to see all the new plant and equipment that we acquire.
Q: What’s your proudest moment at ACS so far?
A: I helped to set up the ACS plant yard and continue to ensure that all the materials and equipment are maintained and stored correctly. The yard has helped progress ACS as a company, so I’m proud to be a part of it.
Q: What is the company culture like?
A: Hard-working, but fun. I recently worked on the ACS charity golf day, which was enjoyable. We have team socials a few times a year, which helps the company maintain good working relationships.
Q: How can women be inspired to join the construction industry?
A: It’s great to see other women in the construction industry; watching them progress in their roles is always inspiring. I don’t think the industry is as male-dominated as it used to be and I think more women will continue to join the sector, now that construction is more balanced than it once was.
