Women in Construction: Emma Hafford

Meet Emma Hafford our Purchasing Assistant at ACS Construction Group.

Q: Why did you choose the construction industry?

A: I used to work in a customer service based role within the retail industry, but I’d always been interested in the construction sector. I like that it’s constantly changing and evolving.

Q: What do you like most about your role?

A: There are always new challenges to tackle and no day is ever the same! ACS has given me lots of freedom to bring in new initiatives and to roll these out across our team. Recently, I’ve visited our construction sites to help train our team on new cost system changes to Eque2. It was great to be onsite and to gain a better understanding of what our business is all about.

Q: What’s your proudest moment at ACS so far?

A: One of my highlights is when I joined ACS on a placement year as part of my degree. I was proud to have secured a Frist-Class Honours whilst studying and working at the same time for my final year. Since then, I’ve recently won the North West CECA award for Women in Civil Engineering which felt very rewarding.

Q: What is the company culture like?

A: I love working at ACS as the team is at the heart of the business. I feel lucky to be part of a group of people who get along with each other and have fun!

Q: How can women be inspired to join the construction industry?

A: When I recently attended the CECA awards it was fantastic to see other women in our industry who had also been nominated for the award I won. My advice to a woman thinking of starting out in the industry would be to go for it! There are so many opportunities for personal development and every day brings new challenges and experiences.
