Job Description.
The job holder is part of a team that carries out the initial site work on a construction project prior to the building stage. The works they undertake can range from excavating the site, creating access routes, laying foundations, laying drains both deep and shallow, concreting works, reinstatement of the ground, slab preparations, paving and kerbing work. In addition to this, the job holder will be operating heavy plant and equipment. The job is of a physical nature which is both practical but also labour intensive.
The job holder will have the following duties:
- To complete work tasks allocated by the site supervisor on a daily basis
- Report any work problems or issues to the site supervisor
- To be responsible for own health and safety and that of those working alongside them
Key Responsibilities.
The job holder will be required to work within a high risk health and safety environment as the projects the company work on are often fast paced and pressured working alongside other trades and contractors. The job requires the holder to work both within a team but also sometimes on an individual basis. The pace and pressure is often driven by having to work to tight timescales.
Required Skills & Experience.
Essential:
- Experience working as a ground worker
- A good level of numeracy
- Physically fit
- Qualifications appropriate to the work undertaken, including an appropriate CSCS card
- CPCS card for operating plant
- Willingness to undertake training to gain appropriate qualifications
- An ability and willingness to travel to and from the location of work each day
- An ability to work on their own and as part of a team
- Common sense
Desirable:
- An ability to be flexible in their approach to work and daily tasks
- A team player
- A desire for self development and improvement
Location:
The job holder is required to travel to and from work at various locations throughout the UK. Shared transport may be provided.
The job holder will be required to work within a high risk health and safety environment as detailed above. This is then coupled with the Health and Safety risk element of the job of a ground worker, such as working at height, working in confined spaces, working with hot works and operating and working alongside heavy plant and equipment. The job requires the holder to be responsible for their own personal safety and than of others who work around them.
