The group provides several services to a variety of sectors including the energy and renewable energy sectors, education, commercial/industrial, government, utilities/infrastructure and leisure.

Key Tasks, Duties and Accountabilities

  • Undertake the ordering of materials in accordance with relevant specifications and drawings applicable to the individual projects.

  • Undertake the ordering of plant/machinery hire or purchase in accordance with the requirements of the individual projects.

  • Liaise with material & plant suppliers in a professional, courteous & consistent manner.

  • Ensure the company system for undertaking & recording material & plant orders are adhered too at all times.

  • Assist in the implementation & development of any new management systems that the company may introduce, that will fundamentally affect the role of the buyer.

  • Monitor the performance of company suppliers and advise senior management of any misdemeanours or poor performance encountered.

  • Always endeavour to secure the best deals available to the company. You show a professional judgement based on cost, time, performance & attitude.

  • Manage the logistical elements of the company delivery vehicle to ensure collections and/or deliveries are effectively carried out.

  • Manage any sub-ordinates within the buying department and provide all necessary training/advise deemed necessary to allow sub-ordinates to perform the duties required off them.

  • Assist the estimating department when tendering new contracts.

  • Assist the plant manager during periodic stock control checks.

The role

Based in our Cheadle office, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that material & plant requirements for individual projects are procured & managed in an efficient & professional manner.

Package

Salary – £50K+

Job Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Interpersonal Essential Skills

  • Relevant successful experience in the role of a buyer
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of purchasing procedures
  • Commercial and financial understanding and knowledge
  • IT proficient

Desirable

  • Knowledge & understanding of construction drawings & Schedules.
  • Qualifications within the construction industry, such as ONC/HNC.
